New from Traidcraft – Clean & Fair range of cleaning products

Clean & Fair range_opt

In the early 1900s palm oil was one of the biggest exports for the West African countries where it originates. It’s widely used in foods and a whole range of products. It’s an incredibly versatile oil and demand outstripped supply, so production moved elsewhere. Huge plantations sprang up across the Far East. Now, 87% of the world’s production comes from the Far East. The environment suffered as a consequence of these big plantations. Whole areas of rainforest have been and are still being destroyed. According to the United Nations, 98% of Indonesia’s rainforests could be destroyed by 2022. Smallholder farmers in Africa can’t compete with mass produced prices. This means that palm fruit which grows naturally gets wasted. Traidcraft are now working with smallholder farmers in Ghana to produce fair trade palm oil, in a way that protects the environment. This new range of cleaning products, produced in partnership with BioD, is great for the planet, has great performance and is great for people. When you chose Clean & Fair, you’re investing in the future of fair trade palm and coconut oil. A future that will transform communities in Ghana and rural India.

“A Christmas Spirit” is the theme this year for Ilminster’s Victorian Evening and the official switch-on of the town’s festive lights.

Children will be able to enjoy a ride on the teacups and see Father Christmas, who will be circulating throughout the town.

The switch on begins at 7.00pm. Most shops in the town will remain open till 8.30pm. With the usual throng of shoppers expected between 6.30pm and 7.30pm, get there early to make sure you don’t lose a bargain!
